A 450 word statement

It was the open day at Manchester University that gave me a strong desire to apply for architecture at MSA. The first step to the entrance in this University was nothing like the other universities. It seemed so bright, fascinating and intriguing but yet again familiar atmosphere gave me comfort. Having Manchester as my home ground gives me more advantages than the disadvantages. The advantages are that I am very familiar with the Manchester city Centre which I can adapt quicker to and I also have the opportunity to stay at home. On the open day they took me around the city Centre. The most memorable part of the tour was the MMU building which was built recently. The talk was held by one of the lecturers in this building which was appealing. I really like the idea that last year’s theme was the habitat so I thought Manchester University of architecture would give me a chance to show various skills to produce a well-developed final idea. Moreover, I believe that Manchester University is famously known for one of the top universities for architecture and also according to the league table which attracts me to this place more than any other universities nearby.

The recent exhibition that I have been to is Richard Rogers RA at Royal Academy of Art in London. In the exhibition there were most of the architectural models that Rogers has designed. It was interesting to know that the most common building around the world was designed by Richard Rogers. An example of this is the Lloyd building. The uniqueness of the Lloyd’s building makes up for its fame. The site where the current Lloyd's Building sits was the home to the original headquarters of Lloyd's of London which was open in 1986 by Elizabeth the 2nd.

My favourite building is the Yellow diamond Building designed by the Unsangdong architects. It is located in Seoul, South Korea. This building is positioned in the middle of the run down areas. The building stands with a bright and vivid colour. Therefore it makes the building stand out; furthermore, makes it look more dynamic and energetic. The Unsangdong architects design buildings that are not only visibly attractive but they also consider the environmental studies on how to make a sustainable building for the future. One of the buildings called energy plus house is built in South Korea which saves energy as the solar panels are attached onto the roof. These positive features that are very small, yet important, polish my opinion.

Lastly, the works of Unsangdong architects are the ones that I would want to experience in person. This is not only because they design the most unique and vibrant buildings but also they think about the space, location and time.
